Jane and Kevin Roche Scholarship
The Jane & Kevin Roche Scholarship fund was established in 2022 by the children of Jane and Kevin Roche to celebrate the lives and achievements of their parents.
Students who have completed two years in accredited undergraduate architectural programs or who have been accepted into an accredited graduate program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a Connecticut based architectural program or Connecticut Residents.
Charles DuBose Memorial Scholarship
The Charles DuBose Scholarship Fund was established in 1986 by DuBose Associates, Inc. of Hartford, Connecticut in memory of Charles DuBose, FAIA. Ruth DuBose, Widow of Mr. Charles DuBose, has contributed substantially to the scholarship fund. Charles DuBose, Founder and Chairman of DuBose Architects Associates, Inc., was most noted for his design of Constitution Plaza in Hartford. It was acclaimed in the 1960’s as one of the first urban developments to effectively separate pedestrian movement from vehicular traffic with a series of raised landscaped terraces.
Students who have completed two years in accredited undergraduate architectural programs or who have been accepted into an accredited graduate program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Connecticut residents are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students at the University of Pennsylvania, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Fontainebleau summer program.
Suzanne Sheng Memorial Scholarship
In 1997, the Sheng family established a memorial scholarship fund in memory of Suzanne Sheng who was a Connecticut architect working with James Lawler, FAIA at the time of her death. The first scholarship award from the fund was in 2002.
Students who have completed two years in accredited undergraduate architectural programs or who have been accepted into an accredited graduate program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Connecticut residents are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students at Cornell University.
CAF Scholarship
The CAF offers scholarships funded from the proceeds of our own fundraising efforts and from our generous sponsors. These scholarships are granted to students with the goal of furthering the mission of the Connecticut Architecture Foundation: to raise public awareness and expectations of Architecture and the built environment.
Students who have completed two years in accredited undergraduate architectural programs or who have been accepted into an accredited graduate program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Connecticut residents are encouraged to apply.
Scholarship awards have previously ranged between $1,200 and $5,000.
Scholarships will be awarded for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Deadline: April 22, 2024
To apply for one of these scholarships, submit digitally as per note #6, sequenced in the following order:
- Application
- A one-page letter describing your accomplishments, goals, and aspirations.
- A one-to-two-page resume of education, experience, honors, activities, interests and Connecticut affiliation.
- A completed Financial Aid form signed and completed by the Financial Aid office at the institution you are attending. Your school’s Financial Aid Officer must complete the relevant sections and sign the form.
- One exemplary project including description of project, drawings/media depicting project and an explanation of the rationale for your design. Materials will not be returned. (By submitting this application, you grant permission to the Connecticut Architecture Foundation, Inc. to reproduce any or all of your materials for the promotion of its programs.)
- Prepare a single PDF file of all submitted material (in the same sequence as listed above) labeled: 2024 CAF Scholarship Application file. YOUR NAME.
- Submit through WeTransfer: https://cafct.wetransfer.com/
- Note that the successful applicant, upon being notified of award, will be expected to provide a portrait photo for news releases, as well as a 1-minute introductory video.
In addition, please note the following:
- Applications must include current email address, contact information and telephone number.
- If confirmation of acceptance of award is not received in writing within 30 days of award notification, the award offering will be revoked.
- If application is incomplete or does not comply with stated requirements, application will be disqualified.
- Applications must be electronically submitted by the deadline date of April 22, 2024.
- Two letters of reference from faculty members of the institution you attend on school stationary are required to be emailed by the references directly to [email protected] by the deadline date of April 22, 2024. The name of the applicant is to be included in the subject line as “Re: Applicant’s Name, Connecticut Architecture Foundation Scholarship”. Note that references from employers (unless also a faculty member reference) or others will not be accepted. CAF strongly encourages this request to be made well in advance of the deadline.
Additional Notes
- Scholarships are awarded for the college/university academic year. In the event that the student graduates early or leaves school for some other reason, the scholarship will be pro-rated based upon that portion of the school year actually enrolled.
- An award recipient may request a deferment until the following academic year. The deferment request must be prepared and submitted by the award recipient and sent via email to the Scholarship Committee at [email protected] If approved by the CAF board of directors, the application will be deferred until the next academic year. Upon notification, the applicant will not need to reapply but will be required to submit a Deferred Scholarship Reinstatement Form and all award paperwork or decline the deferred award.
