Architecture scholarships

A scholarship from The Connecticut Architecture Foundation can help you pursue your architectural education. Every year, The CAF awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to architecture students in NAAB-accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Since 1986 the Foundation has awarded over $600,000 in scholarships.

Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship

The Connecticut Architecture Foundation, in partnership with Hoffmann Architects and Engineers, a Connecticut-based architecture and engineering firm specializing in building exteriors, is pleased to offer this scholarship, starting in 2023, to students from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups who are seeking degrees in architecture or engineering.

Internship Opportunity with Hoffmann Architects and Engineers

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers may offer scholarship recipients the opportunity for a paid internship in one of the firm’s three offices (New Haven CT, New York NY, and Alexandria VA). As a practice specializing in a unique niche of the architecture and engineering profession – the design and rehabilitation of the building enclosure – Hoffmann can provide students with practical experience in diagnosis and detailing of exterior envelope systems that they likely would not be exposed to in their architecture or engineering studies.

The internship is optional and declining the offer of an intern position does not necessitate forfeiting the scholarship. Internships are not guaranteed to awardees and are pending other logistical considerations.

Eligibility for the Hoffmann Scholarship

The Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship is open to applicants who are:

  • Students entering or enrolled full-time in an NAAB-accredited architecture program or ABET-accredited civil or structural engineering program, and residents / full-time college or university students located in: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington DC, Virginia, or Maryland.
  • Students representing a minority racial or ethnic group, as defined by the State of New York.  Please refer to the application for additional details.
  • Preference is given to applicants intending to pursue a career in the restoration and rehabilitation of existing buildings, specifically focusing on the building enclosure.  However, the scholarship is open to all applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria, regardless of intended specialization.

The Allan Dehar Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 in memory of Allan Dehar, FAIA. Beginning with humble roots attending trade school followed by attending night school, his work experience included the offices of Eero Saarinen & Associates and Minoru Yamasaki & Associates. He founded his firm, Allan Dehar Associates in New Haven designing significant projects with an emphasis on higher education. His contributions to the profession included serving on the Connecticut Architectural Licensing Board and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, mentoring high school students through the ACE Mentor Program, and speaking to vocational classes about a career in architecture.

In response to the reality that there are multiple pathways for obtaining an architectural education, this scholarship provides an opportunity to assist and to encourage students who are interested in pursuing a career in architecture.
