Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship

The Connecticut Architecture Foundation, in partnership with Hoffmann Architects and Engineers, a Connecticut-based architecture and engineering firm specializing in building exteriors, is pleased to offer this scholarship to students from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups who are seeking degrees in architecture or engineering.

Eligibility for the Hoffmann Scholarship

The Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship is open to applicants who are:

  • Students entering or enrolled full-time in an NAAB-accredited architecture program or ABET-accredited civil or structural engineering programand residents / full-time college or university students located in: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington DC, Virginia, or Maryland.
  • Students representing a minority racial or ethnic group, as defined by the State of New York.  Please refer to the application for additional details.
  • Preference is given to applicants intending to pursue a career in the restoration and rehabilitation of existing buildings, specifically focusing on the building enclosure.  However, the scholarship is open to all applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria, regardless of intended specialization.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To apply for the Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship, submit the following material:

  1. Completed Application Form.
  2. A one-page cover letter describing:
  • Why you chose to study architecture and/or engineering.
  • Your background and experience in architecture, engineering, design, and/or construction.
  • Your career aspirations and anticipated educational program.
  • Anything else you feel is relevant to your application, such as family history, accomplishments, unusual circumstances, experiences, or inspiration.
  1. A one-to-two-page resumé, including contact information, education, work experience, community service/volunteer experience, internships, honors/awards, and clubs and extracurricular activities.
  2. A transcript from your current school (high school or college). First-year college students must also include a high school transcript, and transfer students must include a transcript from their previous institution. Either unofficial or official transcripts are accepted.
  3. Optional: If drawing/drafting/rendering or other creative art is part of your experience, you may elect to include a portfolio with examples of your work (not more than five examples).

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

  1. Prepare a single application file in .pdf format of all submittal materials in the sequence listed above. Label file as follows: 2025 Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship YOUR NAME.
  2. Submit to WeTransfer: https://cafct.wetransfer.com/.
  3. Incomplete applications, or those that do not comply with the stated eligibility criteria and application requirements, will not be considered. Application materials will not be returned.
  4. The successful applicant, on being notified of award, will provide a portrait photo for news releases. A one-minute introductory video may also be requested.
  5. By submitting this application, you grant permission to the Connecticut Architecture Foundation, Inc. to reproduce any or all your materials for the promotion of its programs.
